Internship Program for Non-profit Organizations

The Foundation’s internship program for non-profits is an innovative model that makes the most of relationship-building and leveraged-resources. Internship grants to communication students allow them to use their talents for non-profit organizations which can always use the extra hands. The benefits reverberate: many of the students continue to volunteer for non-profits; they learn that non-profits are a career option; and some alums are already on-the-job as paid staffers. Since the program started in 2002, more than 50 non-profits have participated and students are taking on more and more sophisticated and responsible job assignments.

For information about the program, contact Patty Cottingham, vice president/administration, Scripps Howard Foundation at 513-977-3847 or patty.cottingham@scripps.com.

During Melody Martin's internship at Big Brothers Big Sisters, she not only did the PR for their annual 5K run, she also recruited runners and walkers, managed day-of volunteer assignments, ran in the race and dished out ice cream afterwards.
