If entering the College Cartoonist category, click here for rules and entry form.

If entering the Journalism Teacher of the Year or Journalism Administrator of the Year categories, click here for rules and entry form.

Deadline to enter is postmark January 31, 2009.

Entries must be for work broadcast or published in print or presented online by a newspaper, wire service, syndicate or news organization; single radio or television station; commonly-owned group of radio or television stations or cable systems; national television or radio network or cable system; national syndication or production company in the United States or its territories.

Entries should be simply presented in a way easy for the judges to handle and read, or according to specific instructions given in the category description.

Submit only one copy of the entry.

Submit originals or unaltered copies, photocopies and/or electronic copies -- that show the publication and publication date.

If submitting electronic copies, the material must be available on an active URL. You must provide the URL on our entry form and take responsibility for its off-site functionality.

You may include a CD containing online material. It must be presented in Windows PC format, protected by a sleeve and attached to the entry.

No more than two entries per category may be submitted by a newspaper, magazine, wire service, syndicate or news organization, broadcast station, cable system, network syndication service or production company.

The same work may be entered in more than one category but may win in only one category.

A sponsoring letter of nomination must be signed by someone other than the nominee who is employed by the same organization. It must be included with the entry.

Entry form may be copied as needed. Click here for entry form.

An entry form must be fully completed and secured to the front of each entry. Be sure the correct form is attached to the correct entry. A duplicate of the completed form should be paper-clipped to the front of the entry.

$50 entry fee must be included for each entry in a category. IF SUBMITTING MULTIPLE ENTRIES, SUBMIT ONE CHECK. DO NOT SEND SEPARATELY. Make check payable to Scripps Howard Foundation. No fees will be refunded for any reason. So be sure your check is in the right amount. Over-payments not refunded. (No entry fee required for Distinguished Service to the First Amendment, College Cartoonist, Journalism Teacher of the Year or Journalism Administrator of the Year categories.)

Entries will not be returned and may be collected in educational and research archives or republished in an anthology of outstanding journalism for general distribution.

Entries must be postmarked by January 31, 2009 and received by the judging date. Scripps Howard Foundation is not responsible for entries received too late for judging.
